GLAD I DID… WISH I HAD!

Most people – if they live long enough – experience the pain of regret. In it’s mildest form, it’s running out of gas or getting a flat on an important trip – and realizing that you chose not to renew your CAA card cause, in your words, “It’s a waste of money. I never use it!” In a more profound sense, regret is investing all your money in a beach house in South Carolina – which is hit by a hurricane – which your insurance policy does not cover. Regret is, I wish I had…! Relief is, I’m glad I DID! Jesus, the most profound, powerful, world-changing person who ever lived said, “If you just hear my words – and don’t do them – you will experience the regret of losing all you’ve worked for when the storm comes. Question: Do you think He has the authority to make the signs? Do we have the authority to change the ones we don’t agree with?  If not – well, that has implications for our lives – and for a culture that thinks the signs can be ignored.

EXPOSED!

Jesus made an extraordinary claim for Himself that either reveals Who He was and is – or how crazy and off the wall He was. He claimed, at the end of this astounding message on how to live well, that He would be the Judge on the final day. If were to make a claim like that – my family would have me committed to a mental hospital. But, then again, I didn’t raise the dead or rise from the dead!
According to Jesus, the great things we do in Jesus’ Name – and the claims we make don’t mean a thing unless we actually know Him – and do what He says.  Jesus words are shocking! The bottom line is that there is a day when all the fakes get called out. You don’t want to be following a fake!

SPOTTING COUNTERFEITS

At a time when there are so many choices and so many options, there are people who tend to be more selective with who they trust with their bank accounts – than who they trust with our souls. There is a temptation to google an important issue – and then believe what some person says – -especially if it fits what we want to believe. It’s important to know – especially when it comes to your soul – what a person’s motives are. Some people’s motives are really all about themselves – it’s the ego rush of having people believe you and follow you.  For others – it’s about money or something they can get from you. Jesus, the same one who said to love your enemies and forgive people who hate you and hurt you also said to be careful. Why? He said that some people are false prophets. Vicious wolves dressed up like sheep. Fortunately, He also told us how to spot them. And it’s not people who seem sincere or seem to know what they’re talking about – or love to talk about the Bible. It’s about the fruit of their lives. If they are producing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control – then listen.

YOUR MOST VALUABLE GIFT

We live in the land of choice at a time where there are more choices than ever before in this history of the world! We have been in a season where those choices are limited. We don’t like it one bit! Choice is one of God’s best gifts to humans. It’s something He allows us to do – without interfering – because we’ve been made in His image. But here’s what I see – what I’ve noticed; We don’t just want the opportunity to choose – we want all our choices to be okay with God and others – for everything to be okay in the end. And, according to what Jesus says at the end of this message on choices, some lead to LIFE – and some lead to the destruction of our lives and our souls. I mean, that’s actually true in life, isn’t it? When it comes to deciding who to marry – we make choices. When it comes to choosing friends and pastimes – we make choices. When it comes to how we use our money and time – we make choices. All choices have consequences. Some are great – some are horrible! When it comes to the destination of your life, you want to make the best choice you’ve ever made. If I were you, I’d check to see who made the signs that guided you to where you’re at. When it comes to the path you take through life – and who makes the signs – you’ll want to make a great choice!
