We love generosity – and yet we really, really struggle to love being generous! Why is that? It’s because being generous costs us. It’s because generosity confronts selfishness and self-centeredness and self-interest. We don’t calculate it like this, but the thinking behind stinginess and self-centeredness (the opposite of generosity) is, “If I give it – I won’t have it! And then I’ll be the one in need!” And that’s the real question, isn’t it?
