Technically, "denominations" are different kinds of the same type of thing. For example, money comes in different "denominations." Christian denominations are simply churches with differing personalities.
The Olive Branch is a member church of the CCCC. We really can't remember what all the 'C's stand for; oh yeah, Congregational Christian Churches in Canada. Congregational means that we are free to make our own decisions, to pursue our distinct calling. Christian describes the fact that we are fully devoted to Jesus Christ, His teachings, and His plan for us and our world. Church describes what we are a gathering, a community of people, brought together to explore our relationship of love with God and express our relationship of love with others. Canada simply says where we are in Canada. CCCC is a uniquely Canadian organization.
The Olive Branch is, simply put, about others. It's about people who are gathered to make a difference in this worldspecifically, in people's lives. It's a community gathered to truly understand what friendship with God looks and feels like. It's about people becoming, with God's help, the person they've always wanted to become. It's about being part of something that is MUCH bigger than yourself with others, and doing something MUCH more significant with others than you could ever do by yourself. Most of all, it's about belonging. It's about being accepted just as you are by God and by others. We want to bring the light of God to every single place we go - to every person we meet. We want our surrounding neighbourhoods to have genuine cause to be glad we're here.
SURPRISE! We promise you...it won't be BORING! You'll find that God is the most fascinating, interesting, wise, amazing Person in the Universe! So we will use every means, every form of the arts, our best in everything to attempt to portray Him and what He's said about life. Our goal is to not waste a single moment of anyone's time or a single opportunity to reach out. Our goal as The Olive Branch is, actually, to extend the olive branch of hope, peace, and acceptance to every person who comes.
We will treat your children as our Treasure! Not only will they be safe, they will have a blast as they learn about spiritual reality, learn what the guard rails are in life, and learn how to live as a treasured child of God! Your children will be taught and cared for by people who have been carefully screened, and whose calling in life is to care for children. We want your children to make close friends and feel accepted and valued...to have a place where they belong!
You will probably want to dress to come, but you don't have to 'dress up'. The "Sunday best" thing doesn't work with us, so if you wear what you feel comfortable in, we'll feel comfortable.
Walls are barriers, sometimes barriers to keep people/weather/intruders out. Walls keep us safe. That's good. We want our gatherings to be safe places. Safe for children. Safe for people to open their souls and not have them contaminated. But we don't want there to be any barriers to keep people out. Ever. We want our faith, our love, our desire to make a difference. To be "uncontained"...to spill out into neighbourhoods, businesses, schools, wherever we go. In fact, faith and deep spirituality could never/should never be contained within stained glass. See, faith and spirituality should permeate every area of life. If what we believe most deeply doesn't affect our lives outside of the church walls, it's not real. So, BRING DOWN THE WALLS! Let the life spill out into the streets!
When it came to those who hung around Jesus, they were either among the "decided" or among the "undecided." The decided were those who had seen enough of Jesus to believe that He was who He claimed to be, and put their faith in Him. Others needed more time - they needed to see more and hear more. Eventually they either decided against Him, or they put their faith in Him and were transformed by the experience. "Undecided" people are those who need more time and evidence and experience to make a good decision about Jesus Christ. The Olive Branch is all about allowing people the time and space and opportunities to make a good decision!
Wow! Let us tell you the ways! Truth is, we want everyone to engage. See, we think that when people are engaged/involved, they really take ownership. At The Olive Branch, we want everyone to find out what they're best at and what God is calling them to do - and then we want to help them fly...like, really be the best they can be. Our dream is to be about developing the whole person. Imagine what an army of people who are all engaged, giving themselves fully, doing what they do best, can accomplish. So, if you're ready to be involved; just ask "anyone" ...because we believe that the best of who you are, and what you do, can be expressed - Right Here!
